Shimla, 25th September,2024 Justice Rajiv Shakdher, has been sworn in as 29th the Chief Justice, of High Court of Himachal Pradesh today. The Governor Shri Shiv Pratap Shukla, administered the oath of office to the newly appointed Chief Justice at Raj Bhawan, in a simple but an impressive ceremony.
Justice Rajiv Shakdher, was born on 19th October, 1962. Studied in St.Columba’s School, Delhi. Graduated in B.Com. (Hons.) from Delhi University in 1984. Obtained LL.B. degree from Law Faculty, University of Delhi in 1987. Enrolled as an Advocate on 19th November, 1987. Completed Chartered Accountancy from Institute of Chartered Accountants of India in 1987. Admitted as an Associate Member with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India on 29th January, 1988. Pursued Advanced Course of Law at Institute of Advanced Legal Studies from University of London in 1994. Was designated as Senior Advocate on 8th December, 2005.
Practiced in the Supreme Court of India, High Court of Delhi and other High Courts of India, Tax Tribunals, DRT, BIFR, AAIFR, MRTP and Company Law Board. Has vast experience in civil litigation, constitutional law, with special emphasis on commercial litigation, corporate and taxation laws.
Was appointed as a counsel for the Union of India on 13th March, 1995 by the Government of India with respect to its cases in the High Court of Delhi. Appointed on the Senior Panel of the Union of India in the Delhi High Court on 20th July, 2004 till 20th July, 2007. Appointed in 2005 to the Union of India Panel in the Supreme Court of India. Appointed as a counsel by the office of Comptroller and Auditor General to defend IA &AD matters before CAT from 1st August, 2002 to 31st July, 2003. Appointed as a Senior Standing Counsel by office of Comptroller and Auditor General of India, to defend IA & AD cases before Delhi High Court with effect from 1st August, 2006. Appointed as Additional Judge of Delhi High Court on 11.04.2008 and became permanent Judge on 17.10.2011. Transferred to Madras High Court w.e.f. 11.04.2016.
Transferred to Delhi High Court w.e.f. 15.01.2018 to 24.9.2024 and now become the 29th Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court.
After taking oath at Raj Bhawan, the Chief Justice was given Red Carpet Welcome and Guard of Honour in the High Court premises. Full Court Welcome Address, in honour of new Chief Justice, was held in the Court of Chief Justice.
Speaking on the occasion the Chief Justice said that his Lordship’s door is open to redress the grievance for all without any discrimination
Speaking on the occasion, Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan said that it is a matter of great privilege and honour to welcome Justice Rajiv Shakdher , who has been given the responsibility to head this High Court in the beautiful State of H.P, also known as Dev Bhumi. Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan said that Justice Rajiv shakdher has delivered a number of landmark judgments.and always acknowledged for his intelligence, integrity and hard-work. Justice Chauhan further said that Justice Shakdher has maintained consistency and momentum to clear the backlog of cases in whatever roster he was assigned. He is known to be a very pleasant Judge who always made it a point to give patient hearing to the parties. He has also ensured that the judgments are delivered expeditiously after conclusion of hearing . on the Bench, Justice Shakdher is known to be courteous and his willingness to listen which has gained him admiration and respect from the members of the Bar. Justice Chauhan further said that Justice Shakdher was inducted into several committees as Chairman or member by the e-Committee, Supreme Court of India to contribute on diverse subjects i.e. Updation of Baseline Report on Human Resource Development Strategy, Privacy and Data Security, Neutral Citation and Monitoring & Implementation of e-courts, Mobile APP of High Court of Delhi, Online RTI Portal in Delhi High Court, Live streaming of court proceedings etc. Justice Chauhan assured the Chief Justice, an unflinching support on hehalf of sister and brother Judges and on behalf of entire judicial fraternity.
Sh. Anup Rattan, Advocate General, Sh, Lovneesh Kanwar Chairman, Bar Council of Himachal Pradesh, Sh.Dalip Singh Kaisth, President Bar Association, H.P. High Court and Mr. Balram Sharma,, Deputy Solicitor General of India India also spoke on the occasion.
Judges of High Court of H.P. Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, Justice Vivek Singh Thakur, Justice Ajay Mohan Goel, Justice Sandeep Sharma, Justice Jyotsna Rewal Dua and Justice Satyen Vaidya, Justice Sushil Kukreja, Justice Virender Singh, Justice Ranjan Sharma, Justice Bipin Chander Negi, Justice Rakesh Kainthla were also present on the occasion. The Registrar General conducted the proceedings.
Among other prominent persons present on the occasion were wife of the Chief Justice Mrs. Dipa Dixit and family members, Judges of High Court of Delhi, former Judges of High Court of H.P. Senior Advocates and other Members of Bar Association, Registrar General and other Registrars, officers and staff of High Court Registry were also present on the occasion.
